What makes a kid wake up on the wrong side of the bed?

I rolled out of bed to get my Kindergartener ready for school. He seemed to have woken up on the wrong side of the bed, aka the couch! I had forgotten he woke me at about 5:45am because he "couldn't sleep" and asked if he could sleep on the couch. Half asleep I rolled over and said "sure, but you're not putting the tv on if that's what you think!" It was a battle from here. He couldn't sit up because he was "tired." He couldn't get dressed because he was "cold." He didn't need to wear his hat outside because he was "fine." Oh, and today his winter jacket was "way too small!" What did he want to pack for a snack? He "didn't know." I did not have time to argue. It is the same routine every morning, why is he giving me a hard time? I got a notification from the school bus app that it was on its way. It is 2 degrees today. Trust me, I do not want to go outside just as much! It was my husbands turn to bring him up to the bus stop, thank god. Time to get shoes on... I had to tell him twice, but he did it! Things were turning around, right? I told him I loved him and wished him a fun day! We usually don't have mornings like this so when we do it can be frustrating. I took a deep breath and reminded myself that we are his "safe place." He can give us a hard time because he is comfortable. This is secure attachment and it is okay to have hard days. I know that when he gets to school the attitude will disappear. He is the sweetest little boy on the planet and he would not dare treat Mrs. P as if he woke up on the wrong side of the couch.
